Jonathan Chao is a Chinese-American filmmaker originally from Santa Cruz, CA. As a person of color in the film industry, he is driven by a passion to uplift marginalized voices and showcase authentic minority and immigrant experiences on the silver screen. Jonathan is currently a 3rd-year MFA candidate in Film Production with an emphasis in Directing at Chapman University. Prior to pursuing his MFA, he earned a BA degree in Anthropology from UCLA, where he also minored in Film, Television, and Digital Media. He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.
     This past summer, Jonathan joined Amazon MGM Studios & Prime Video as an Amazon Original Movies Intern. Throughout his tenure, he undertook a diverse range of responsibilities, including script coverage, research, and actively engaging in content strategy projects, thereby contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the department. Previously, he had the privilege of interning at Plan B Entertainment, a production company headed by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner, known for producing Academy Award-winning films such as Moonlight (2016) and 12 Years a Slave (2013). Jonathan has also worked as a Videographer and Editor at Gadgetbox Studios, a music and video production company based in Santa Cruz, CA. In addition, he has completed development and production internships at Blumhouse Productions and Partizan Entertainment.
